Beyond The Engagement Ring – Wedding Jewellery To Covet

When a couple becomes engaged, it’s all about the ring. Who picked it out, how many carats, what does the setting look like, white gold, yellow gold or platinum? The traditional engagement ring does indeed attract a lot of attention, but truth be told, there are many other types of wedding jewellery to covet.

Nonetheless, all of the wedding accessories – from earrings to bracelets to cufflinks for the groom – seem to be altogether overlooked. They play second fiddle, which is unfortunate because the ring monopolizes but one finger – a fabulous necklace or tiara, on the other hand, can make your wedding dress sizzle.

So here at Jeff Morrison Fine Jewellery, we thought it would be helpful to share some of our best advice when it comes to your wedding jewellery.

Make sure you coordinate

You definitely want to wear jewellery that you love. But your wedding dress will be centre stage on your special day and you want accessories that complement the aesthetic.

Does your dress have a vintage feel to it? Is it sleek and modern? Is it already adorned with jewels? You may want to choose jewellery that is the same style and that doesn’t compete with the dress’ design.

Not all pieces work with all dresses. You probably shouldn’t wear a show-stopping necklace with a halter neck. V-necks, on the other hand, work well with pendant necklaces. Strapless dresses look beautiful with chandelier earrings.

While there are no hard and fast rules, you should definitely try on the jewellery with your dress before you make any final decisions.

Consider budget

Just like your engagement ring, you need to consider the budget. It’s not worth overextending yourself for a handful of accessories. Indeed, a fabulous bracelet can leave a lasting impression, but if you can’t afford it – it’s essentially irrelevant.

Consider renting your wedding jewellery, or even integrating some ‘faux’ pieces into the mix so that you don’t have to break the bank.

Something borrowed, something new…

Your wedding jewellery is a great way to hit all the points in that beloved poem. Why not choose something old, something new, something borrowed and even something blue.

A stunning family heirloom, a gift from your future in-laws, sapphire earrings or your sister’s diamond barrette – you can cover all of your bases with wedding jewellery that will ensure you are adorned with little touches that make you feel special.

Don’t forget the groom

While we all appreciate that the wedding is ultimately about the bride, the groom might also appreciate a little indulgence.

Wedding jewellery is a great way to make the groom feel special and appreciated. A new pair of cufflinks, a fabulous watch or a tie pin can jazz up his wedding day ensemble and add that requisite touch of sparkle that every wedding requires.
